1. What is Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Abode Acrobat Reader is a commonly used software program that works with your web browser to download and display documents. If you are having difficulty opening Acrobat PDF files it may be because a current version of Acrobat Reader (5.0) is not present on your computer system. Use the links below to obtain a current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

2. How do I download Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0?
VERY IMPORTANT: Before you download and install Acrobat Reader 5.0, you MUST remove (uninstall) any previous versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader from your system. See Question 4 for instructions.

3. What are some tips for correctly downloading and installing Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Windows Users:
When you begin the download of Acrobat Reader you will be asked if you want to Run this program from its current location -or- Download this program to disk. Make sure to select Download this program to disk.
Next you will be asked where you want to save the file. Select Desktop.
The file name of the Acrobat Installer will be ar505enu. It should be located on your Desktop. Do not delete this file. You may need to install Acrobat Reader again if the first installation is unsuccessful.
Disconnect from the Internet, and close all other applications before you install Acrobat Reader 5.
To install Acrobat Reader, double-click the installer icon (a red box with a blue ball inside). Make sure to follow directions carefully.
After you successfully install Acrobat Reader, Restart your computer.

4. How do I remove old versions of Acrobat Reader from my computer system?
Windows Users:
Click the Windows Start button
Select Settings
Select Control Panels
Click on the Add/Remove Programs icon
A window will open containing a list of all Currently Installed Programs.
Select Adobe Acrobat Reader If more than one version of Reader is listed (3, 4), remove them all. If the full Adobe Acrobat Application is installed, make sure you DO NOT delete it.
Click the Change/Remove button
Use the Adobe Acrobat Reader Installer to install the software. If you have already downloaded the new software find the file name ar505enu. It should be located on your Desktop or in Program Files on your main drive.

5. How do I Delete Temporary Internet Files and Clear History from my web browser?
Internet Explorer v. 5 Users
From the top menu (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help), click Tools and select Internet Options
Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files
Under Temporary Internet Files, click Settings:
- The Settings window will open
- At the bottom are three buttons. Select the middle button, View Files
- A window will open including a list of any additional temporary files. If files are listed:
- Using the top menu, under Edit, click Select All
- Under File, click Delete
Under History, click Clear History
Click OK and close the Internet Options window.

6. When I click the GRADE button, nothing happens. What should I do?
This indicates one of two things:
You may just need to Refresh/Reload the page. Use your web browser menu to refresh the page.
This may indicate a memory shortage. You will not be able to retrieve your answers to the exam questions. You should Delete Temporary Internet files and Clear History. Use the instructions explained in Question 5
Start the Final Exam process over from the Final Exam Instructions.

7. When I submit PDF exams, I receive an error message that states: "Acrobat Reader needs to be running in a web browser to perform that operation" What is the problem?
This error message indicates one of two things:
You may have downloaded the final exam PDF file using a Download Utility, something like RealNetworks Downloader. You must:
- Delete any final exam PDF file you have downloaded;
- Disable or uninstall the Download Utility;
- Start the Final Exam process over from the Final Exam Instructions.
You may have a bad installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. You may need to delete the version of Acrobat currently on your computer and then reinstall the software. Follow the directions in Question 4 to remove old versions and/or the directions in Question 2 above to download Acrobat Reader.

8. While taking a PDF Final Exam the questions disappeared. What happened?
This indicates that you are running low on memory. You should Delete Temporary Internet Files and Clear History. Before you begin, write down your responses to the questions you have answered. Close and delete the PDF exam file. Then perform the following operations.
WindowsInternet Explorer Users
From the top menu (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help), click the Tools
Select Internet Options
- Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files
- Under History, click Clear History
Start the Final Exam process over from the Final Exam Instructions.
